Hartberg, a city in crisis? The project deals with the feeling of shrinking in small towns, retail outflow and the revitalization of old town centers. Confronted with processes of change that have noticeably altered life in the city center, this project picks up where the theoretical examination of the development of rural areas often stops. It uses five empty business premises in the city center (provided free of charge by the owners) and fills them with the social and cultural commitment of the population. We give the empty spaces a rudimentary makeover so that they can be used in a meaningful and variable way. Through an increasing number of activities between June 19 and July 7, 2017, the empty spaces and thus the city center will be temporarily revitalized in a non-commercial way, new networks will be created and the population will enjoy their own potential. Meetings of cultural and social associations, consultation hours, artist rehearsals, school lessons and much more will be relocated to the city center. The activities and collected conversations are published in four small zines.
